Fujimaru Ritsuka (藤丸 立香, Fujimaru Ritsuka?) is a Master acting under Chaldea Security Organization for the purpose of completing the Grand Orders to restore the Human Order in Fate/Grand Order. They are contracted with Shielder Mash Kyrielight and possess provisional contracts with many Servants summoned into Chaldea. The name and gender of Ritsuka can be actively changed by the player, with the nicknames Gudao and Gudako being often used by fans for the male and female version respectively, rather than their proper name.

Profile

Background

As a self-insert for the player, The Protagonist has very few background details or connections to other people or events. They are simply "someone who just happened to see a recruitment flyer at a station, applied and got accepted into the job, and somehow ended up getting taken into the Chaldea Security Organization", effectively having joined Chaldea on a whim while being a civilian with no training or combat experience. They are acting as a newly established Master candidate of Chaldea whose only purpose is shoring up numbers.

When they were younger, the Protagonist had a next-door neighbor, an old man who was a veteran of World War II. Though everyone had left him after the war and had been living alone for 20 years since then, the old man held no resentment over what had happened to him. They befriended the old man when they were in junior high school, and were upset to hear that at the end he was left behind with nothing in return. The old man corrected them when he heard this, telling them "There were sad and painful things, but when I look back they become trivial and insignificant. And it's not a lonely life either. After all, I am talking to you." When the old man died a few days afterwards, the Protagonist did not cry for him, as they realized that life can be wonderful even if it is not rewarded.

According to the Shimosa manga adaptation, Fujimaru was part of their school's volleyball team.

They are described as being in their late teens and below the legal drinking age, but their exact age is not specified.

Appearance

The Protagonist is of average build, though more visibly muscular in the male version. Mash described them of medium height. The male version has short unkempt dark brown hair and blue eyes, while the female version has shoulder-length red hair tied in a side-ponytail on the left side with a usually yellow hair band and a cowlick, and light orange eyes. Their Command Spells are located on their right hand and differ in form between male and female version.

The Protagonist wears various different Mystic Codes.

Personality

Their alignment is NeutralGood, but the Lion King, one of Chaldea's enemies, defined them as a soul who "knows good but commits evil, and allows evil while being good." James Moriarty similarly describes the protagonist as "good, yet not hating evil, tormented by evil, yet carrying on doing good". They are highly empathetic and have a gift when it comes to dealing with Servants, in no small part because they believe that everyone has something about them that deserves respect even if their views are irreconcilable, and are able to form strong ties with even the most dangerous and unstable of Servants summoned by Chaldea. While they are aware that their own skill as a magus is questionable at best, they trust in their Servants to act as their strength in their stead.

According to quotes from Kadoc Zemlupus and Goredolf Musik, they are known for their foolhardiness and willingness to go to great lengths to help others. This was evidenced by their attempt to bring back the carcass of Specimen E for further research, despite its ominous appearance. However, their efforts were ultimately in vain as the carcass disintegrated into a cloud of dust upon contact with Fujimaru's hand, demonstrating their courage in the face of danger.

Role

The Protagonist is to act as a Master who uses FATE to summon Servants for the purpose of completing Grand Orders to correct distortions in human history.

Ability

Anti-Poison

Ritsuka displays an unusual resistance to poison, given the name Anti-Poison Skill (Provisional) (対毒性スキル(仮)?) during the Fourth Singularity. It is theorized to stem from their contract with Mash Kyrielight, bearing a high poison resistance or blessing skill, neutralizing any Filth-type threat beneath the Mystic level of a Noble Phantasm. They are also shown to be immune to Suzuka Gozen's charming Mystic Eyes, but not to the God-class Mystics of Euryale's charms. However, they are unusually susceptible to mental influence through dreams, which the Outer Gods have attempted to exploit as a path into the world.

Development

Creation and Conception

According to Takeuchi, he designed Ritsuka for Fate/Grand Order as gender swapped versions of Shirō and Rin.
